A BETTER
UNDERSTANDING OF "HOME"
Understanding my home....
At the beginning of the semester I started familiarizing my self of the home I live in, by documenting the different spaces and the different functions that happen on a daily bases. As I documented I came about to know new things that happen that I never take notice of, such as how everyone behaves differently in each space, how some spaces are used more by my room mate and less by me and how spaces are used in different times by different people. I also familiarized my self the difference between HOME and HOUSE and I felt that it was difficult for me to call my apartment a HOUSE because when ever I go away from home I try to make my new house as similar to my real home in terms of comfort, safety and things that strongly remind me of home.

After doing this exercise I came to learn more about where I live, things that I never used to see started coming up such as different behaviors in different spaces, different functions in different spaces and how simple things can make a big difference between a home and a house.
MAKING A CUP OF TEA........
sketching and investigations
stills from the video
As I started documenting things I do in my home I came to realize that there are a lot of things that I take for granted. When I started filming my self-making a cup of tea I started realizing things I never noticed before, such as touch, smell, noise, emotions and memory. Every time I would make a cup of tea I would experience different things such as the smell of the steam brushing on my face, the different noises that occur from time to time and the thoughts and memories that come up in my mind, the smell that brings up all memories weather good or bad. Feeling the different surfaces weather cold, hot, rough, smooth or slippery. Watching the tea getting ready makes me zone out to this other world; I call it the interior of my thoughts. As soon as the hot tea touches my lips and the fragrances rush up my taste buds I would snap back to the real world.

STOP MOTION ANIMATION.....
final coin video
In this exercise I tried to show how objects move in my home. I chose coins that sit in a bag on my dining table, I always take coins when I go out and put more in when I come back. I also felt that it brought awareness to me on how much money I spent in a month. Making a stop animation was an amazing experience I enjoyed every moment but I had to make sure the camera was always still. The most difficult thing I faced was moving each coin every time then taking a photo.
THE REAL AND UNREAL......
In this exercise I started making a model of my home, I chose the living area because it where all the interesting activities happen. I concentrated most on textural materials with different textures such as carpets and sofas. I also wanted to contrast the real and the unreal of the model it self by crating 3D objects such as sofas and contrasting that with drawings of objects on the wall and adding photos as the view that worked really well. the images below show the unreal and the real space.

real and unreal video....
As I got to know my home more and more I realized how quiet it was, something I never came across until I started filming my real space and my imaginary space (the journey from the noisy city to the quiet home). Every time I would walk home I would hear and sea things I never notice before, but was always there like construction sites, the noise and smell of the rain, people walking and talking. i started noticing sounds like the door squeak when I closed the door, the door slamming back, the door knob turning, the key sliding in to the lock, the carpet noise when I walk and my body rubbing against the doona when I tuck my self into bed, the plates noise while doing the dishes and other strange noises that come from the unknown.
IMMERSIVE ENVIRONMENTS
LIGHT AND SOUND....
I was interested in unnoticeable things that happen in a home in terms of sound, light and shadow. At first I started taking photos of light and shadows during different times, I was fascinated on how beautiful the light takes shape of the existing conditions. When I started documenting light during different times I started paying attention to it all the time. i realized that the sun shines in different location in every month, for example the sun used to shine across my bed in the month of august and in the month of october it shines on the wall.
DAY LIGHT DOCUMENTATION....
DAY LIGHT DOCUMENTATION....
The night time light was not very interesting as the day light, i was interested more in day light more because of its movement from time to time.
LIGHT AND SOUND VIDEO.....
In the lights exercise I filmed a natural incident that takes place in my house that i never noticed before. I filmed my window with the blinds down and the wind blowing into the room creating very interesting light forms. As I am half asleep in bed I can see wen the room gets brighter and hear the blinds banging on the wall so I start dreaming about it in a slower and faster motion. In the video I slowed down some parts and sped up some parts to create the dream like motion.
I always like to ley down on the carpet and look at things in another perspective, when I lay down I start seeing objects in bigger form and i think of them as architecture so I decided to film an immersive journey through objects that I scattered around my apartment. this journey strongly reminded me of scuba diving which i sometimes feel when i lay on the carpet.
THE "UNNOTICEABLE" FINAL PROJECT
At the beginning of this course I started to do exercises that familiarized me with my HOME, I started noticing things that I never notice before such as the amount of coins that go in and out of the bag, the different noises that is made when you make a cup of tea, the natural lights and reflections that are not noticed in the home. After doing all these experiments I was interested in the unnoticed natural light that changes shape as the time passes ignoring all the objects crating beautiful shapes. My concept is to create a series of parasitic mirrored objects that attach to the home exaggerating the amount of sunlight that enters a home making it a noticeable beautiful feature in your home.

The night time light was not very interesting as the day light, i was interested more in day light because of its movement from time to time crating beautiful different patterns.
FINAL LIGHT VIDEO.....
creating this video was a very challenging thing to do, it all depended on a good sunny day. i had to film hours and hours then move the camera following the sun light. i realized the the sun shines in different spots every month. after the video was completed i had to fast forward the video so that the light movement can be visible this video demonstrates the movement of the reflected light of the mirrored objects. the reflection moves across the room creating beautiful exaggerated and noticeable patterns.
CONCLUSION
In this class I have obtained a variety of different skills that I will use in my future classes. One of the most important skills that I learned was familiarizing my self with new and different technology. Upon realizing the techniques of how to use imovie, video cameras and lighting I have moved a step beyond my movie making skills. In addition, I have faced a number of challenges and difficulties that I have worked on improving. Overall I have enjoyed every moment of this class and felt that I have gained a large amount of knowledge that will help me inspire my future work.
