Jessica: Proposal

Title: "Pieces of Home"

Subject/Topic:

The relationship between travel and the notion of 'home.'  Exploring what objects people bring with them during their travels, to either remind them of home, or make their current location feel more like home.

Research:

- Alain de Botton "The art of Travel"
- "The sketchbook project"  (http://www.arthousecoop.com/projects/sketchbookproject)
- Mark Dion
- Candy Jernigan ("Evidence")

Relationship to previous work:

The work I completed for Brief 1 was about the transitions I experienced when moving from one Country to another, from dorm to house, etc.   I explored how I approached each new living situation, the differences between them, and what I both consciously and unconsciously did to make a home for myself.  The ideas I have for Brief 3 relate directly to my personal experiences, and about how travel and the notion of 'home' are intertwined.

Processes:

- interviews
- photographic documentation of objects
- video and sound recording
- written responses from interviewees

Resources:

- digital camera
- sound recorder
- journal (for personal documentation of processes, thoughts, ideas, etc.)
- bound book (to contain hand written responses by interviewees, sketches, ideas, etc.)
