Experience the Home

Starting from define what is a HOME and HOUSE in the class; I firstly got some ideas that what is home different from house. Home is a place where we have a sense of belonging, it has its experiences and smells, and it makes us feel warm and safe. As an international student in overseas, I always try to find this home kind of feeling here which is not too different from my own home in my country.

I started to document my home with photographs and measurement. (during the process, I experienced moving home suddenly, so finally I choose my new home to document)
After I documenting my home by drawing plans, doing measurement and making models, I start to find some main furniture to explore.
I found my new home is different from privier homes because of the warm lights, it makes me feel this house is warm, sweet and want to stay for.

this is my new bedroom plan

compare with the old apartment, it just made me feel empty, lonely even feel scared sometimes, as its celling is too high and the light is too bright.

Storm in a teacup
Tea making is one of my daily activity at home as a cup of warm tea makes me feel comfortable and relax to stay, also it makes me feel like I am in my real home. And I really enjoy the process.
Normally I do it at kitchen. I think kitchen is another place I love as it always reminds me to remember my life at home with family, mum likes to talk to me when she was working at the kitchen.
For the video taking, I set the camera at a fixed spot and behind my head, make this video as a process recording of tea making.
Below images are some stills which taken from the video.

From this video making, I have got an idea with the word "communicate".

Experience and time
Activity at home...
For this experience and time video making I choose kitchen as my particular site to do it.
I think kitchen is an interesting place, as there are lots of communication including people and people, people and food, food and food etc. These are sometimes ignored by us as the busy daily work.
I use stop animation skills which learned from class to make this video as a small communication story between an orange and some apples. I found its fun as it is a little episode which happen during our daily life but usually hidden.
From the process of making this stop animation, I am also noticed that "open" heart and mind is very important for us to discover the wonderful pieces of our daily lifes.

Real and Unreal
From the first two video exercises, I found that home is an amazing place to experience with which I have never felt it before. There are many stories happen every day even every second unless you open your heart or a "door".

Video...
The main concept of the video is about the word "open". This idea is from the two exercises i did before. I think"home"has many "secrets", if we are open our hearts to open a door, a book or anything, we can experience different things and communicate them with our lifes.

Home is a place you can feel and experience with, which is different from a house as a physical structure.Refer the brief 1 studies so far, I found that home is an interesting place to explore with. After producing the storm in a teacup video (tea making in the kitchen) and experience & time video (orange and apple in the kitchen), I am interested in the word "communicate" and "open" through experiencing my home. As in our daily life now days, there is less and less communication, for example family members. We should open our heart to explore our home with family members; open our mind to find more interesting things in our life. I think in my further studies, I will bring the idea of home to explore this space, not only the thing we can see, but feel, listen, smell with the words "communicate" and "open".
